URBANA, Ill. — Need a place to safely conduct an online sale in-person? The Urbana Police Department has you covered.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, the Urbana Police Department announced the introduction of its new “Internet Exchange Parking Spot.” The designated spot is clearly marked and located just steps from the department’s entrance. It’s being introduced in an effort to give people a safe space to meet up in person to complete their online transactions.
Urbana Police also said the area is video monitored 24/7. The entrance to this spot is located off the 400 block of South Urbana Avenue on the back side of the City Building.
“We encourage residents to use this area for added peace of mind when meeting someone for an online sale,” the department said in its post. “If something doesn’t feel right, we’re right inside.”
According to WCIA, this initiative addresses the growing concern of online sale scams and potential dangers that can arise when meeting strangers for transactions. The police department hopes this designated area will provide residents with a secure environment for their exchanges.
This is a proactive step by Urbana Police to enhance community safety and prevent potential crimes related to online marketplaces. The department continues to work on initiatives that promote public safety and build trust within the community.
