Good morning, Central Illinois! Today brings a mix of sun and wind as we start our week, with temperatures reaching into the mid-50s during the day. Be prepared for brisk gusts, especially in the afternoon, which could make it feel cooler than the actual temperature suggests. As evening approaches, expect a drop to around freezing overnight.
Today’s Forecast
The high today will be near 53°F with partly sunny skies and winds coming from the west-southwest at 22-32 mph, gusting up to 45 mph. This evening, temperatures will cool down to around 32°F under partly cloudy skies with a north-northwest wind blowing between 6 to 18 mph.
7-Day Outlook
Saturday looks mostly cloudy with a high near 54°F and gentle east winds. Saturday night remains mild, staying in the upper 40s as southeast winds pick up slightly. Sunday sees temperatures climbing into the mid-60s but also brings a chance of rain showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon hours; expect southerly winds to intensify at 17-31 mph with gusts reaching 46 mph.
As we move through the night, precipitation continues in various forms—ranging from heavy rain to snow accumulation of up to two inches by Sunday night. Monday will be a continuation of wintry conditions as snow is likely throughout the day with gusty northwest winds and another inch or three of snow possible.
By Tuesday, temperatures plummet to near 20°F overnight with only a slight chance for more light snow accumulation. This cold snap continues into Wednesday, although we’ll see a gradual warming trend back towards spring-like conditions by the end of the week. Thursday offers another chance at sunny skies and milder temperatures around 62°F.
Stay tuned for updates as conditions can change quickly with such strong winds in play this week. Remember to dress in layers, keep an umbrella handy on Sunday, and stay alert for any travel advisories as the weather transitions between rain, snow, and cold snaps over the next few days.
