TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) – Unity senior wrestler Phoenix Molina was named the WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week on Thursday.
Molina, a senior for the Rockets, is undefeated on the season and is now preparing to compete at state in Bloomington. It’s a fourth trip to state in four years for the nationally ranked wrestler. She hopes to finish atop the podium this time around, fueled by a second and third place finish in previous seasons.
“You can’t really focus too much on the wins or the losses,” Molina said. “You just got to keep moving forward. So I’m very much hungry for it as much as I am just going to go out there and give everything I got.”
She plans to continue her wrestling career at Lehigh University.
Molina is now eligible for a $1,500 cash prize given to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
According to WCIA 3, Molina’s dedication and success on the mat have earned her this recognition.
