Sangamon County Animal Control Investigates Cruel Animal Dumping Incident

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center is investigating a disturbing case of animal abandonment after three sick Chihuahuas were found dumped at the Washington Park Botanical Garden in Springfield.

According to a Facebook post from the animal control center, the three small dogs were discovered in poor condition and suffering from parvo, a highly contagious viral disease. The post emphasized that the dogs did not end up at the park by accident, stating that “abandoning animals is not only cruel — it is illegal.”

“These small dogs were left scared, vulnerable, and sick with parvo,” the post reads. “Even the smallest detail could make a difference in this investigation. Let’s stand together against animal cruelty in our community.”

The animal control center is urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward. Community members who saw anything suspicious, have security footage of the area, or have information about the dogs’ previous owners are asked to contact the center immediately at 217-535-3065.
