Downtown Savoy Demolition Project Begins Monday

SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — Next week, a number of buildings in Downtown Savoy will begin being demolished, with the project set to wrap up in May.

According to a press release from the Savoy Public Works Department, the Downtown Demolition Project will begin on Monday, March 2. The project area includes the block bounded by Dunlap Avenue (U.S. Route 45), Wesley Avenue, Church Street and Main Street.

All of the buildings within the project area are slated to be demolished, with the exception of the metal-clad building facing Church Street. Following demolition, the site will be backfilled and restored with grass. Initial work will include site preparation, followed by structural demolition and site restoration activities.

The Public Works Department said the contractor will comply with all applicable state and local permitting requirements and will adhere to the Village of Savoy Noise Ordinance. They also said this project is expected to be finished by May 15, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
